Ass. Prof. Gregory Emvalomatis - ASSEE Academic Director

He is an Associate Professor at the Department of Economics of the University of Crete. Prior to joining the University of Crete in 2021, he held academic posts at the University of Dundee (Lecturer and Senior Lecturer) and Wageningnen University (Assistant Professor) and served as the PhD Director of the Scottish Graduate Programme in Economics and as the Head of the Economic Studies Division at the University of Dundee. His research concentrates on topics in applied microeconomics, especially, efficiency and productivity analysis, with applications mostly in agricultural economics. All his research projects include an econometric component and, increasingly over the years, employ Bayesian methods. Gregory has taught courses in applied statistics, intermediate and advanced econometrics, microeconomics and business economics/quantitative methods, as well as a series of summer schools on Bayesian econometrics and efficiency and productivity analysis.

Ast. Prof. Michail Tsagris - ASSEE Managing Director

He is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Economics of the University of Crete (UoC) and an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of New Brunswick Saint John. Prior to these he worked as a Teaching Fellow at the Department of Economics (UoC), as a Research Associate at the Department of Computer Science (UoC), as an Assistant Professor at the American University of the Middle East (Kuwait) and as a Research Associate at the School of Mathematical Sciences of the University of Nottingham. He received his BSc and MSc in statistics from the Athens University of Economics and Business (Greece) and his PhD in statistics from the University of Nottingham. Michail has published more than 40 papers in journals, conference proceedings and book chapters and has developed 10 R packages. His current research interests include computational statistics, compositional and directional data analysis, applied econometrics, Bayesian network learning algorithms and variable selection algorithms.

Prof. Vangelis Tzouvelekas - ASSEE Committee

He is Professor of Microeconomic Theory and Policy at the Department of Economics, University of Crete. He has a B.Sc. in Economics from University of Pireaus and a PhD in Agricultural Economics and Policy from University of Wales, Aberystwyth. His research experience includes production economics and duality theory, applied microeconometrics and economics of innovations. He has also participated in several international and National research projects and he has published his work in relevant academic outlets including European Economic Review, American Journal of Agricultural Economics, Economic Inquiry, Journal of Environmental Economics and Management and Journal of Productivity Analysis among others. He has held visiting positions at the University of Cyprus, Warwick Business School and the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute (at Chania). 

Ass. Prof. Margarita Genius - ASSEE Committee

She is Associate Professor of Applied Econometrics at the Department of Economics, University of Crete. She got her B.Sc. in Economics from the University of Barcelona and her Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, San Diego. She has held an Assistant Professor position at the Department of Economics, University of Michigan. Her research experience is applied econometrics in the areas of environmental economics, production economics and natural resources. She has participated in several National and European projects and her research has been published in academic journals such as Economics Letters, American Journal of Agricultural Economics, Environmental and Resource Economics and Resource and Energy Economics.

Ast. Prof. Konstantinos Chatzimichael - ASSEE KAM Manager

He is currently an Αssistant Professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics at the Agricultural University of Athens. Since 2010, he holds a PhD in Εconomics from the Department of Economics at the University of Crete. During the period 2012-19, he worked as Special Scientist in the Department of Commerce, Finance, and Shipping at the Cyprus University of Technology. During 2006-07, he was an exchange visitor in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology at Penn State University, USA. His research interests cover the fields of Applied Microeconomics, Production Economics, Economics of Productivity and Innovation, and Panel Data Econometrics with emphasis on the agricultural sector. His research has been published in international peer-reviewed academic journals. He has participated in many international conferences and several research projects funded from European Union and National Resources.

Dr Iosif Kafkalas - ASSEE Secretary

He has a B.Sc. in Economics from University of Crete, M.Sc. in Economics from Athens University of Economics and Business and a PhD in Economics and Decision Analysis from University of Crete in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and Resource Economics at University of Maryland. His research experience includes Applied Microeconomics, Data Envelopment Analysis and applications in Business and Tourism. He has participated in several international research projects and holds visiting positions at Business Colleges in Cyprus and the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute at Chania.
